When is it time to meet the Family ?

ok so , I been with my guy a little over a year. he is 37, I'm 21. We actually have been living together for the past year also !! I have yet to meet my mom, he met mines this Thanksgiving !! So next month hes going back to his hometown to do his taxes.. and spend lil time with his family. I asked why i wasn't coming along.. he said ,"my family doesn't know u exist, and I'm not ready for you to meet them cause they know nothing about you " ! he barely talked to his mom last year.. maybe like 3 times on phone .. and i understand that part. BUT isn't that's what meeting is ? Seeing someone for first time and asking questions ? i feel like a big secret. i mean i totally respect and understand but its like idk if hes actually too serious or not about our relationship . We have been ttc (make a baby) and he has given me a promise ring . I don't work nor in school, he does alot for me and helps me along to way to get on my feet so i can one day soon go back to school and start back working. I just dk what to think !!
